Homemade Earring Display Ideas
Earring displays keep earrings from getting damaged in a jumbled pile. They also make the earrings easier to view and match to an outfit. Homemade earring displays don't need to look like they were thrown together carelessly, even if they are simple and made of scrap material. Earring displays can even be part of your interior decorating.

Picture Frame
-
Make sure the frame style matches the rest of the room. Use a picture frame to showcase your earrings. By tacking strips of fabric or fishing line taut across the back of the frame without the photo backing, you will create a place for earrings to be organized into neat rows. You can even alternate rows of fishing line, which can hold hook earrings, and rows of thin fabric, through which you can pin posts. Choose a frame that reflects the rest of the decoration in the room. For example, if you are going for a busy Victorian look, choose an intricate brass frame; if you are going for a mod look, choose a white plastic frame.
Fabric Streamers
-
Hang strips of black fabric down from the wall. Then, poke holes into the fabric with either the earring hooks or the posts and secure them onto the fabric with either a piece of tape or the earring backing. If you use black lace, you can use the holes already present in the material. Make sure that the streamers are wide enough to be able to display each pair of earrings next to each other. Using a black material will better set off the color and shine of the earrings. Be sure to hem rough edges.

Embroidery Hoop
-
A wooden hoop will work. Use embroidery hoops fitted with embroidery fabric to display earrings. The earring hooks or posts will easily fit through the weave of the embroidery fabric, and you can even include a bit of handmade cross stitch embellishment around the inner edges of the hoop. This is a great display style for earrings that are homemade because embroidery hoops evoke the spirit of handicraft by association. If you want, you can use a material other than embroidery fabric in the hoop. Any color material that sets off the earrings in the display would be wholly appropriate.
Open Book
-
Old book covers have an attractive, antique feel. Find an old book whose pages are rotting out and gut it. Create small holes in the book cover with a pin and display the earrings by setting them in the holes and hooking them over the top of the book cover. The book can stand, partially open, on a dresser, low table or wide windowsill. Be aware that this will have a great effect if you choose a snazzy vintage book cover; one with a picture or gold embossing will work well.
