Crafts help hold forks and spoons.

At camp, forks, spoons and knives are frequently lost among other camping equipment. To help fix this problem, there are easy crafts for campers to make during arts-and-crafts time. To prepare for a family camping trip, larger cutlery holders are easy to make to help keep forks and spoons organized on the trip.

  1. Plastic Canvas Cutlery Holder

    • Cut six different pieces from a sheet of plastic canvas: two 17-square-wide by 60-square-long pieces for the front and back; two 2-square-wide by 60-squares-long pieces for the sides; one 8-square-wide by 17-square-long piece for the bottom; one 15-square-wide by 17-square-long piece for the flap. Using embroidery thread, sew one side panel to a long edge of the front panel, then do the same for the second side panel. Sew on the back panel to create a thin rectangular box without ends. Add the bottom piece, sewing it in place, to enclose one end of the box. On the open end, stitch one end of the flap approximately 7 squares down on the inside of the back panel to make a lid for the box. Fold the remaining flap over the opening of the box. Attach a small piece of Velcro to the other end of the flap and add another piece to the front panel to secure the flap in place.

    Felt Cutlery Holder

    • Measure the length of each piece of cutlery and the width of all pieces sitting side by side. Cut out a piece of felt that is one inch wider than the width of the cutlery pieces side by side and double the length of the longest piece of cutlery plus 1 and 1/2 inches. Fold the felt in half so that the crease is on the bottom. Punch holes in the sides of the felt in 1/2-inch increments. Thread a piece of ribbon through the holes on one side and knot it to keep it in place. Do the same for the other side. Glue Velcro on the top inside of the holder to allow it to close. Place the cutlery inside and secure with the Velcro. Decorate the outside of the felt using puffy paints, permanent marker and stickers.

    Sock Silverware Holder

    • Stretch out an old, clean sock. Decorate it with fabric paint. About 1/2 inch from the top of the sock, poke holes around the sock at 1/2 inch intervals. Thread a medium-width ribbon through the holes. Place a fork, spoon and knife in the sock. Tie the ribbon to close the sock and keep the silverware inside.

    Cardboard Silverware Holder

    • Cover the outside of a shoebox or medium-sized cardboard box with construction paper. Hot glue or staple three plastic cups to the inside bottom of the box. Make sure the cups are sitting side by side. Cut a strip of cardboard and hot glue or staple it to the inside edges of the box to make a handle. Decorate the handle and outside of the box. Place forks, spoons and knives in the plastic cups. In the empty space in the box place napkins, large serving spoons and other utensils.
