TuneUp is a third-party software plugin that helps clean and organize your iTunes music library. Currently, you can download a limited version free of charge or you can purchase the full version of the software. The free version limits the number of fixes the software can perform, whereas the full version offers unlimited fixes. If you purchase TuneUp, you can choose an annual subscription, or for $10 more, you can purchase a lifetime subscription for one computer.

  1. Cleans

    • TuneUp cleans your music collection by locating and fixing mislabeled and missing song information. This includes repairing title and artist misspellings, "finding" unknown artists and replacing "Track" with the song's actual title. Once TuneUp cleans a song, the software saves the new song information within your music library. The free, or "lite," version of the software limits the number of songs you can clean.

    Restores Missing Cover Art

    • Sometimes, when you add a song to your iTunes library, it does not contain any album art. When this occurs, a gray music note in a square represents the song. TuneUp scans your library and identifies songs without album artwork. Then, it downloads and adds the appropriate cover art to the individual songs. If multiple album covers are available for a particular song, you can select the artwork you prefer. Clicking "Select All" automatically saves the first result for each song found without album art. Once again, the free version of the software limits the number of songs on which you can use this feature.

    Removes Duplicate Music Files

    • TuneUp scans your music library and locates any duplicate content. For example, a movie soundtrack may include a song that also was included in an artist's album. You can review any found duplicate content within TuneUp, and then select the songs you wish to keep and those you wish to delete. Alternatively, you can delete all duplicate content all at once. Once again, the free version of the software limits the number of songs on which you can use this feature.

    Delivers Additional Musical Content

    • TuneUp provides a feature called Tuniverse that delivers additional musical content to your computer. Using the songs in your library as reference, the software delivers concert ticket information, artist news and artist bios. TuneUp also allows you to view and purchase artist merchandise from within the software. In addition, you can use TuneUp to view official music videos and live performances from the artists that appear in your music library.
