What Is the Towing Capacity of a 2004 Ford Ranger With a 6 Cylinder Engine?

But trailer towing places an extra load on your six-cylinder-powered Ranger's brakes, transmission, engine, axle and suspension. Ford set restrictions for the maximum allowable trailer weight your truck can carry. Exceeding these limits may damage your truck.
The 3 Liter Engine
The 3.0 liter V-6 was the smallest six-cylinder engine offered in 2004 Rangers. Ranger pickups with a regular cab and a six-foot cargo bed can tow up to 2,660 pounds, while models with a seven-foot bed can tow 2,580 pounds. Edge models with a regular cab can tow a 2,520-pound trailer. Due to the extra weight of Rangers with a SuperCab, the total trailer weight cannot exceed 2,480 pounds or 2,400 on the SuperCab Edge.
The 4 Liter Engine
The 4.0 liter V-6 engine was only available as an option on SuperCab Rangers in 2004. The maximum trailer weight is 3,400 pounds on these models, while the SuperCab Edge with this power plant can tow 3,320 pounds.
