Washday is a good inspiration for craft projects.

Although laundry is a mundane chore, washday elements can become a source of creative inspiration for craft projects. Miniature displays, clothespin art and recycled laundry supplies are all crafts that focus on washday. The clothesline is an anachronism increasingly replaced by more modern, convenient dryers. Using this motif in your crafts pays homage to simpler lifestyles.

  1. Miniature Clothesline

    • Knit or crochet miniature sweaters, shirts, pants, dresses and socks. You can also cut out shapes of these clothing articles from construction paper or craft felt. Clip these tiny clothes to a piece of twine, yarn or clothesline to create a miniature washday display. You may use paper clips or miniature clothespins available through some craft suppliers. You can add letters to the clothes to spell out names or phrases.

    Clothespin Crafts

    • Paint and decorate clothespins to create decorative pieces. Bees, dragonflies, butterflies and alligators are four creatures you can make using paint, paper and one clothespin. You can also add wiggly eyes and pipe cleaners to any clothespin creature. Add magnets to the back to make a refrigerator decoration that can hold messages. Clothespins can also make up the legs of larger animal projects.

    Detergent Bottle Boats

    • Cut the top off an empty, washed out laundry detergent bottle. Leave most of the handle. The bottom half of the bottle will become the boat. Decorate the bottle with permanent markers and other craft supplies to look like a ship. Invert the bottle's cap and glue it to the top of the handle for a crow's nest. Decorate clothespins as sailors or pirates and place them around the boat. Add a tiny clothesline featuring miniature sailor or pirate clothes for an added washday touch.
