Vices and Workbenches
-
A workmate can hold large pieces of timber. A manufactured workbench can have a metal or wooden vice fitted onto it. This may use bench stops or 'dogs' for gripping purposes. In restricted spaces, a portable bench, such as a workmate offers the perfect solution, as it is capable of holding large awkward-shaped objects and can be folded away for storing after use.
G-Clamps and C-Clamps
-
G-clamps, a well-equipped workshop has several in various sizes. G-clamps can be used to hold small pieces of wood, or with other G-clamps, to secure larger pieces. Several of these can be used to bend wood around a former or jig when gluing.

Sash and T-bar Clamps
-
The sash or bar clamp, with a fixed head and adjustable slides. Sash clamps are used to hold together furniture carcasses and other large items when gluing. They are usually used in pairs, although gluing a cabinet together may require eight. They are available in different lengths, with longer clamps having T section bars for greater rigidity.
Wooden Handscrew Clamp
-
A wooden handscrew or hand screw clamp. The handscrew clamp is used for holding and gluing smaller items. The jaws can be set at different angles to accommodate tapered work so these clamps have multiple uses. They are available in various sizes.
Quick Release Clamps
-
Adjustable quick release clamp with pistol grip. Quick release clamps go by a variety of names, but have one thing in common, they can be operated with one hand, enabling work to be held while clamping. They can be sash-clamp size down to G-clamp size.
Miter Clamps
-
Miter clamps are used to clamp miter joints when gluing. They hold the wood at a 90 degree angle to ensure accuracy. Internally and externally fitting models are available.
