There is an art to the craft of capturing your memories for others to enjoy and many different ways to get the job done. Scrapbook journaling is a key part of conveying your experiences, but a regular ballpoint pen may not cut it. When you need something with more flourish, there are a few great writing tools for scrapbooking.
-
Gel Pens
-
Gel pens are the all-purpose writing tool for scrapbooking. They come in a wide variety of colors and write easily with a roller-ball tip. The ink is of a lasting, archival variety and dries quickly. Gel pens are best used for journaling and small annotations.
Leafing Pens
-
Leafing pens are more delicate than their gel counterparts. They are made of a fine nib tip and dark, rich ink that generally comes in black or brown, though gold or silver are also an option. The ink is rather dry and not prone to smudging. Use leafing pens when you want flowing, calligraphic headlines and titles.

Slick-Surface Pens
-
Slick-surface pens come in a variety of styles, but they all use ink that will not smudge when used on a glossy surface such as a photo or vellum paper. Most slick-surface pens are made with a nib tip as it's easier to control and produces fine, tight marks. You can use these pens to spice up your photos by adding captions or word balloons.
