Fruits and vegetables are a diet staple. Coming up with fun ways to create crafts can exercise your creative skills while teaching children about the different fruits and vegetables and why they are important for good nutrition.

  1. Fruit Stamp Crafts

    • Cut fruit and vegetables, such as apples, pears, potatoes and carrots, into half or hand-size pieces. Then, carve away portions of the pieces leaving a shape, such as a diamond, plus sign, stars or whatever your skills allow protruding from the face of the cut side. Spread paper across a table and place a variety of colors of paint into paper bowls. Dip the fruit and vegetables into the paint, then press them onto the paper. A decorative image will appear on the paper. Allow the paper to dry and use it in other crafts, to hang as a picture, or as wrapping paper for a gift.

    Seasonal Crafts

    • Carve pumpkins in the fall to create jack-o-lanterns. use fruit to create figures that look like people and animals out of various pieces of fruit and vegetables.

    Children's Crafts

    • Create potato heads out of potatoes and art supplies. Use apple seeds and apples to teach children about Johnny Appleseed by gluing apple seeds onto paper plates in decorative designs and decorating apples with glitter or acrylic paint and letting them dry. Teach children about broccoli and why it is good for them by creating a broccoli boy out of a stem of broccoli, wiggly eyes and felt paper cut into pants.
