Personalize your tree -- make your own ornaments.

Decorating the Christmas tree can be fun for the whole family. Create a tradition of making new ornaments for the tree each year. Children and adults alike will enjoy making the ornaments -- every year the ornaments can become more elaborate as your children get older. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Santa Ornament

    • Use a red plastic ball to serve as Santa's body. Paint a circle in flesh-toned paint on the plastic ball and it allow to dry. Attach two wiggly eyes onto the face. Separate a cotton ball to form the beard, gluing it into place below the eyes. Roll another cotton ball to a long sausage, glue it onto the top of the face to create the hair. You can personalize the Santa by adding a felt hat, nose or glitter to the ornament.

    Snowman Ornament

    • You can begin the craft with a plastic white ornament or, alternatively, you can paint the inside of a glass ornament white. To paint the glass ornament, you will need to remove the ornament hanger from the ball by gently pulling it up. Add water to white paint to thin it. Carefully pour the watered-down white paint into the ornament, turning it inside until the entire ornament is covered. Turn it upside down to drain. Let it dry completely, prior to completing the face and insert the ornament hanger. Using black acrylic paint, apply two dots for the Snowman's eyes and five black dots to create the mouth. Cut a small triangle out of orange felt for the nose, and two small circles out of pink felt for the cheeks. Attach the triangle nose below the black dots and the two pink cheeks to the Snowman, using glue. To create earmuffs, cut a pom-pom in half and attach it to either side of the ornament. Cut a piece of ribbon or wool to fit the space between the pom-pom and attach it to the top of the snow man, tucking both ends under the pompom. The ribbon should be pressed tightly to the ornament, to serve as the connection between the earmuffs.
