Crafts With Seeds & Beads
Seeds and beads provide a variety of textures, sizes and colors for craft projects. Found in many craft shops and easy to store, they are a staple in the supply cupboard of many crafters. When used together to create layered or mosaic projects, they pair well with different beans and rice to add more textures and colors to the projects.

Mosaic Crafts

Draw a sketch of the object you want to depict on a thin piece of plywood or heavy piece of cardboard. Glue pony beads or oblong beads on the outline of the sketch. Let dry completely. Similar to coloring in the lines or painting by number, coat each section of the sketch with a thin layer of glue and then place the seeds or beads of your choice in that section. Fill in all the sections to complete the mosaic.
Candle Holders

Using a tall, clear, drinking glass, layer seeds and beads to make an eye-pleasing pattern of color. The layers should not be perfectly even or have straight lines, diversity provides more interest. Include metallic beads for glitz or faux gem beads for sparkle. Alternate with larger types of seeds, such as pumpkin, watermelon, sunflower or almond seeds, smaller seeds will not work well for this project unless you place thin layers of plastic wrap between the layers. Before adding the last layer, place a votive candle in the middle of the glass and fill the area between the candle holder and glass with the seeds or beads.
