You can create your own Valentine's Day cards at home for cheap.

Valentine's Day is a special holiday where people give each other gifts to show that they care about one another. While many gifts are store-bought, sometimes the best gift you can give is one that is made with love. Instead of rushing to the store this Valentine's Day, consider making your sweetheart something with your own two hands instead.

  1. Coupon Booklet

    • Give your sweetheart a fun Valentine's Day coupon book filled with custom-made coupons that he can redeem whenever. Since this is a homemade project you can make whatever coupons you like, just be sure they are appropriate for the person you are giving them to. Create the coupons using construction paper, markers, stickers and lace or design them on your computer and print them off. Just be sure that when it comes time for your valentine to redeem the coupons that you are willing to go through with what you promised.

    Treats

    • They say the way to a person's heart is through the stomach, so consider giving out some tasty homemade treats for Valentine's Day. Make a batch of sugar cookies in holiday shapes using your favorite recipe and decorate them with pink and red frosting. You can also make your own Valentine's Day chocolates by pouring melted chocolate into heart-shaped candy molds. You can turn an ordinary cupcake recipe into a Valentine's Day treat by adding pink icing and candy conversation hearts on top.

    Greeting Cards

    • Create your own Valentine's Day cards at home and show your affection using your creative side. Your homemade valentine can be made from card stock paper and include drawings, photos, pieces of fabric, bits of lace and whatever else you wish to put on it. You can create a word art card by writing out a message on the front of the card and using an x-acto knife to cut out the negative space around the message so that it stands out. You can even make a 3-D card by affixing a heart-shaped piece of paper to a spring made out of strips of paper that have been folded over multiple times into an accordion shape.

    Flower Pots

    • Anyone can order flowers for Valentine's Day, so give your valentine the opportunity to grow them instead. Pick up a terracotta flower pot and use acrylic paint to jazz it up for Valentine's Day. You can paint flowers or butterflies on the side of the flower pot, or if you don't feel comfortable enough with your painting skills, simple polka dots or hearts will do fine. You can use your homemade flowerpot to house a gift of flowers or give your valentine a seed packet so she can grow her own.
