Needlepoint Tips
Needlepoint is a seemingly simple craft, but is actually more complicated than it looks. A single, missed stitch or thread problem can make a completed piece look less than what it should. By following a few simple tips, you can sew pictures, pillowcases and other needlepoint items with finesse and ease.

Threading
-
Properly threading needles is a constant problem, even for needlepoint pros. It is especially difficult to get the thick pieces of yarn through the thin eye of the needles. A simple but effective way to slip the yarn in easily is to wet it (either with water or just dabbing your tongue on the end), then run it through your fingers and into the eye of the needle. This helps frayed ends stay together and not get stuck outside the eye when threading.
Knots
-
Although it may be tempting to tie a knot in the end of your thread to keep it from running through, this may make for bulges on the unseen side of your project. While it's true they will be hidden from view, they may prevent the project from being laid completely flat for framing purposes, if this is your intent. Instead of knotting, sew down the stray end of thread with each stitch while you are forming the other side.

Stains
-
Should your needlepoint project become stained at any point, soak it for two hours in a bowl of cold water. If the stain is not removed, change the water every two hours until the stain is gone.
