What Lenses Are Interchangeable With the Canon Digital Rebel XTi?

Dozens of styles of lenses are compatible with the Digital Rebel XTi.

The Canon Digital Rebel XTi, a digital single-lens reflex camera, can be used with any lens that has Canon's standard EF (for electro-focus) mount. Which brand of lens you choose will determine how much information is electronically relayed between the lens and the camera body and whether the autofocus feature works properly. Ultimately, Canon cameras are designed with Canon lenses in mind, but third-party manufacturers do make compatible options.

Canon Lenses

Canon makes lenses for the Rebel XTi in a wide range of focal lengths, from a basic 50mm prime lens to lenses that zoom from wide angle to telephoto. Canon lenses are considered by many experts to be superior in quality and features. Because of that, they tend to be more expensive. If you plan on upgrading your camera in the coming years, a Canon lens is more likely to work with a newer-model Canon body.

Third-Party Lenses

Three major third-party companies manufacture lenses with the EF mount: Sigma, Tamron and Tokina. Because these companies are primarily in the business of making lenses, they may have more options available than Canon, such as specialty lenses and more options for zoom lenses. They consistently receive high marks when reviewed by photography experts, both for their price and quality.
