Birthday crafts are a creative way to get party guests involved in the celebration. Crafts can be themed to match the party theme or open to give guests creative freedom. Costume Making

If the birthday girl or boy requested a themed party, such as a superhero theme, center the craft session around this theme. Themed parties often warrant dressing up, but not all party guests might have the time, money, confidence or desire to create a costume. Provide simple cloth materials with various patterns, stick-on Velcro, cloth glue and gems, buttons, beads or other glue-on items so that guests can make costumes together at the party.

A craft session can be a great way to bring positive attention to the birthday child by holding it in her honor. Spread a long sheet of butcher paper out on the floor, making sure it is long enough and wide enough to fit the birthday person's body. Have him lay out flat on the paper and trace his body. Cut out the outline and then let party guests decorate it, drawing in the eyes, nose, mouth, clothes and other details. Hang it up in the entertaining room for the duration of the party. Guests can also write short birthday messages on the portrait so that the birthday boy or girl can keep it as a souvenir.

Birthdays are incomplete without decorations. If you do not want to buy decorations, invite party guests to come early to help decorate the space before the party begins. Gather construction paper, cardboard, cloth and other materials as well as paints, brushes, colored pencils and pens. Let the birthday girl or boy announce a desired party theme and have guests help make that vision come true.

Buy construction paper in multiple colors and provide drawing and painting tools to party guests. Ask guests to write the birthday boy or girl short letters and decorate the letters as they see fit. Once the letters are collected, bind them in a book with the birthday boy's or girl's picture on it and keep it as a book of memories.
