Rustic home decor crafts capture a casual country style. They come from the old wooden sign found at the junk yard, the interesting looking piece of bark from the backyard tree or the wildflowers that bloom in the surrounding meadows. The crafts are uncomplicated and represent the creative activities of the people living in rustic settings.

Rustic home decor represents several country styles, including American Country, Southwestern and Western, although there are some common elements among all the styles, according to "Themed Home Decor." Usually, the style is considered rustic, because its color schemes, building materials and sensibilities arise out of the countryside from which these decor styles sprang. These items can be put together to form a centerpiece of pine cones, small pumpkins and beeswax candles; to make twig frames to frame sepia-toned family photos or hand-painted pottery with country motifs such as bears, roosters or deer. Additionally, flowers taken from the garden or gleaned from a hike in nature make lovely door wreaths as well as dried flower prints for the walls. These types of crafts offer the maker a great deal of creative freedom, because the point of making them is to enjoy the craft as much as it is to create something decorative for the home. Usually, no formal style requirements exist with this type of craft, so experimenting with different looks and materials typify this craft style.
