Valentine Decorating Crafts
Many Valentine craft projects are all about the gifts and the cards. But you can create your own Valentine holiday decorations as well and eschew the store-bought stuff. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and use items such as old newspapers and maps. Valentine's Day craft projects range from the cute to the artistic.

Valentine's Day Kisses
-
These cute little Valentine figures can be used as a gift or as a decoration when grouped together and placed in prominent places around the house. Cut 3-inch-diameter circles from red felt and then cut the circles into quarters. Put glue along the edge of the quarters and fold over. Use a paperclip to hold them in place until the glue is dry. Glue these felt hats on top of the kisses and then glue on the googly eyes.
Hearts Entwined
-
This is a funky, rustic take on traditional Valentine's Day decorations. Make a 3-inch heart-shaped template from cardboard. Fold a large piece of newspaper accordion style, and use the template to trace several heart shapes on top of the newspaper. Cut out the hearts. Line up the hearts side by side on a flat surface and lay twine on top of them about a half-inch from the top of the hearts. Using clear craft glue, glue the hearts to the twine. Drape several heart garlands over the backs of chairs.

Valentine Jar Light
-
Create your own candle luminaries with a few household items and some items from your local craft store. Cut a heart from an old map or book or use simple card stock. Wrap a doily around a jar and tie in place with a ribbon. Tie it off with a bow. Insert the paper heart behind the ribbon just below the bow. Put the battery-operated candle inside the jar and fill the jar with marbles or sparkly gems just above the "flame."
