Life-size Santas are popular lawn ornaments.

Seeing statues of little children playing hide and seek in a yard always brings a smile. These statues are available at lawn and garden supply stores and other major retailers. Make your own and decorate them as you wish. Place them outside when the weather will be clear.

  1. Materials

    • Doll bodies are created by stuffing a pair of tights or pantyhose with fiber fill. The top half of the body is made by stuffing a shirt or blouse. The top and bottom halves are then sewed together and dressed. Appropriate shoes can be fitted onto the feet of the doll.

    Types of Stuffing

    • Fiber fill is good for the stuffing. Quilt batting can be cut and rolled to form the center part of the body and the arms and legs. Stuff medical gloves with fiber fill to form the hands. An old overstuffed chair or sofa that is being discarded contains enough batting or fiber fill for several dolls.

    Faces, Hair and Nails

    • Use a foam wig stand for the head. Glue on an inexpensive wig and then glue the wig stand to the top of the body. Facial features can be painted on with acrylic craft paint. Artificial nails are glued to the fingers. Dress the dolls appropriately.

    Placement

    • Place child-sized dolls with play equipment such as a wagon or tricycle. Create a scene with the dolls playing in a sandbox. Seat adult dolls on garden benches or in a flower garden, or create a special scene.
