Pen Kits for Making Wood Pens
Owners of mini wood lathes often make wood pens as a hobby or business. A 10-inch mini lathe is most often used for turning wood pens. Many pen makers recommend a lathe with an electronic speed control to avoid the often occurrence of changing the belts. Wood pen blanks are turned on a mandrel held between the headstock and the tail-center.

Pen making parts kits vary by manufacturer and are not interchangeable. A pen parts kit will contain brass tubes, tip, twist mechanism, center ring, clip, cap and a pen refill. Pen blanks are square lengths of wood ready to be made into a pen. Some blanks come with the center hole pre-drilled. Pen kits are typically sold separately from blanks. Purchase blanks and kits from the same supplier due to internal pen size differences among manufacturers.
