Leather Wallet Crafts
With some basic leather-crafting skills, you can make useful one-of-a-kind items for yourself and to give as gifts. Start with a project like a simple leather wallet to learn basics such as leather stamping and stitching. Wallet kits are available for every skill level, from kid's kits on up, or you can try your hand at making a leather wallet from scratch.

Kits
-
When you're deciding on a leather wallet kit, choose one that fits your experience -- but you don't have to go too basic. A kit for a child may have everything pre-done but the hand stitching, and the stitching cord will be thick. That's fine for a kid's project, but if you're looking for a project where you can really learn the craft, look for kits that include or require extra tools, such as a leather punch and a leather stamper.
From Scratch
-
Once you've learned the basics and have the necessary tools, you can start making your own leather wallets without using a kit. Purchase uncut leather and do all the cutting, stamping and stitching yourself. Patterns can be purchased online or though craft retailers, or you can design your own. You can also re-purpose old leather items by using them as raw material for handmade leather wallets. Working from scratch rather than a kit allows you to experiment more freely, and it usually costs less.
