  1. Digestion and Inflammation

    • According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, 1 g of fresh ginger has shown reduced cases of nausea in pregnant women. Although it is safe to use, limit the dosage to no longer than four days when pregnant. Ginger root contains compounds that fight inflammation in people with arthritis or digestive disorders such as ulcerative colitis. Adding 1 g daily to foods may reduce the pain that accompanies inflammation.

    Baking and Cooking

    • Purchase fresh ginger root in the produce section of the store and inspect it for mold and firmness. Cut off the outer layer of skin and mince or chop into small pieces before adding to foods. For a spicy kick to bland foods, add to salad dressings or to meats and vegetables as you saute.
