The Kinds of Macrame Knots for Crafts

Using macrame knot and braids, you can make crafts such as bracelets, belts and plant hangers.

Macramé, also called Chinese knotting, is believed to date back to 13th century Arabia. Many crafts projects such as belts, bracelets, plant hangers, tote bags and even lamp shades are created using macramé knots and braids.

Basic Knots

Basic macramé knots include the basic square, hitches and loop knots, frivolite knots used for garnishing; and capuchin and wind knots used to tie off ends. All macrame projects require learning how to create these simpler knots.

Complex Knots

The more complicated knots such as the Josephine knot, snake knot, cloverleaf knot, along with braids such as the spinal and chain braids allow the crafter to achieve a wider variety of patterns and braids.

Macramé Supplies

Creating macramé projects require supplies such as a couch cushion, chair back or door handle to anchor the yarn or cord; scissors, pins and measuring tape; and decorative items like beads, rings or shells depending on the project.
