Inkstand Collectors Associations

Inkstand Collectors Associations thumbnail
Inkwells and stands were once as necessary for writing as pens.

Inkwells and inkstands were a central part of daily life until the fountain pen was invented. Drawn by the history and artistry of inkwells and inkstands, many collectors specialize in these pieces exclusively. Associations are helpful for these collectors.

  1. The Society of Inkwell Collectors

    • The Society of Inkwell Collectors is the only established association with inkwells and inkstands as the main focus. The society features informational resources, such as a quarterly newsletter and a research library. It has online forums, where global collectors can meet and share information. A yearly convention allows members to meet vendors and specialists and to buy or sell items themselves.

    Other Relevant Associations

    • While inkwells and inkstands are not the main focus of other associations, many clubs have members with specialized expertise in types of inkstands and inkwells. Pen and writing equipment clubs collect and research inkwells and inkstands, as do bottle-collecting associations. Clock-collecting associations have members with particular interests in inkstands built with clocks in them. Members of some associations are familiar with the products of particular manufacturers or with one particular line of inkstands. These clubs are helpful for people with multiple collecting interests.
