What Is the Torque Setting on the Intake Manifold of a 2002 F-150 4.2?

Save

The 4.2-liter engine in your 2002 Ford F-150 has a two-part intake manifold and a manifold spacer. Each part has its own torque pattern and two-step torque sequence.

Lower Intake Manifold

  • Pay attention to the length and position of the bolts when removing the lower intake manifold. Some are short bolts and some are long. Don't mix them up when reinstalling the manifold. Look at the manifold from the driver's side. Start with the front-most passenger-side bolt, and number the bolts clockwise from 1 through 14. Include the inner bolts as you count around clockwise. Tighten the bolts in this sequence: 10, 3, 5, 12, 11, 4, 6, 13, 9, 2, 7, 14, 8, 1. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 44 inch-pounds, and then run the sequence again, tightening them to 89 inch-pounds.

Intake Manifold Spacer

  • Look at the manifold spacer from the driver's side. Start with the front-most passenger-side bolt and number the bolts clockwise 1 through 8. Tighten the bolts in this sequence: 2, 6, 1, 5, 3, 7, 8, 4. Tighten the bolts in sequence first to 53 inch-pounds and then to 89 inch-pounds.

Upper Intake Manifold

  • Look at the upper intake manifold from the driver's side. Start with the bolt on the front passenger-side of center and number the bolts clockwise 1 through 12. Tighten the bolts in this sequence: 3, 9, 2, 8, 4, 10, 11, 5, 12, 6, 1, 7. Tighten the bolts first to 53 inch-pounds and then to 89 inch-pounds.
