Indie is a term applied to the culture and fashion created independent of corporations or mainstream media. The line between mainstream and indie fashion has been blurred as by magazines such as “Nylon” promoting “street fashion” in their articles and by street fashion bloggers such as Backyard Bill. Indie hairstyles are generally more conventional than punk or goth styles and dyed with more natural-looking colors. Indie hair styles for women are typically not as high-maintenance as celebrity or mainstream styles.
