Kids Hunting Safety Classes

Learning the safe and proper use of rifles is a crucial part of preparing for a young person's first hunting season. All hunters must complete safety education classes in order to obtain a hunting license. In addition to firearms safety training, youth hunter education classes also teach kids about wildlife and environmental conservation.

Ohio Kids Hunting Safety Course

Ohio defines youth hunters as those who are 17 years old and younger. Youth hunters in Ohio may need a license or a permit, depending on the season and type of hunt. All youth hunters must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult who is 18 or older. This accompanying adult does not have to possess an Ohio hunting license. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources offers free hunter education that prepares students to take the hunting-license exam. Youth in Ohio must pass the hunter-safety test to obtain a hunting license.
