    Try to choose a buddy similar to you in size and physical ability so that you'll consume air at a comparable rate.

    Help each other suit up.

  3. Step 3

    Discuss entry and exit points at your chosen dive site.

  4. Step 4

    Agree on a maximum duration (or minimum air pressure) for the dive.

  5. Step 5

    Review communication signals.

  6. Step 6

    Establish a plan in case of an emergency.

  7. Step 7

    Stick together ' never be more than a few feet apart.

  8. Step 8

    Decide on what to do if separated (search for no more than a minute, then surface).

    Always alert your buddy if you stop or change course.

Tips & Warnings
  • Glance at your buddy every minute. Make sure he or she is comfortable and enjoying the dive.
  • If you need to get your buddy's attention, rap on your tank with a rock or the end of your dive knife. Or scream lightly into your regulator ' it sounds cool and will carry a long distance underwater.
