Make Your Own Yellow Sticky Traps

Yellow sticky traps are used to capture flying insects such as whitefly and aphid. Placed near an infested plant, the yellow color attracts the insect and the sticky coating captures them. Here's how to make these pesticide-free traps from scratch.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Tanglefoot Pest Barriers
    • Plastic Knives
    • Construction Paper Yellow
    • Paper And Binder Clips
      • 1

Cut stiff yellow paper into strips 3 inches wide and 7 inches long.

      • 2

Unbend large paper clips into 'S' shapes. Pierce the yellow paper with one end of the paper clip to form a hanger.

      • 3

Spread Tanglefoot brand pest barrier onto one side of the yellow paper with a plastic knife. (If you spread the Tanglefoot on both sides of the paper, you would have a sticky mess!)

      • 4

Hang the homemade traps in the branches of plants infested with aphid, whitefly or other flying insect pests. Yellow sticky traps are also great for capturing fruit flies.

      • 5

Remove and replace the traps once they become studded with victims.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Hang sticky traps in greenhouses instead of spraying pesticides to control flying insect pests.
