Things You'll Need:
- Etiquette Books
- Postage Stamps
- Stationery
- Writing Pens
-
Step 1
Write your note within a week after your visit - no excuses.
-
Step 2
Use your own engraved stationery, a thank-you card or something informal, instead of your regular professional letterhead, for that all-important personal touch.
-
Step 3
Write your note by hand. Remember, unless the visit really was a networking situation, the intimacy of a house visit can only be communicated via a handwritten note.
-
Step 4
Reminisce. Sure, it was only a week ago, but spell out what was truly special: picking peas in the garden, that squally boat trip, charades....
-
Step 5
Thank your hosts for any extra effort on their part. Did they make your special vegan diet, oust their twins from the bedroom, quarantine the dog?
-
Step 6
Consider extending a reciprocating offer to your hosts, such as inviting them to your home for a weekend.

on 12/9/2005 I'll often purchase a postcard after I've been dropped off at the airport and write a little thank you note while I'm waiting for my flight. It ensures that I don't forget to send a note, and it is a fun way to acknowledge their hospitality.
