-
Step 1
Get ready to dance! Consider a few lessons beforehand, either one-on-one or in a group.
-
Step 2
RSVP as soon as you get the invitation, either by phone or mail, if necessary. Or perhaps you're just required to buy your ticket.
-
Step 3
Prepare your clothes. Dry-clean or press them - or shop for new things. Some dances are formal, some are funky, but most are a nice mix.
-
Step 4
Make certain your shoes are comfortable. If they're new, break them in before the dance.
-
Step 5
Investigate. Is the dance a rave, a cotillion, a jitterbug or a square dance? Make certain you have the right clothes and the right steps for the occasion.
-
Step 6
Be enthusiastic, especially if you're on a date. Dances aren't for everyone, but a "let's try it" attitude can make a big difference in your enjoyment level.
-
Step 7
Save the first and last dance for your date if it's a formal occasion.
-
Step 8
Extend invitations to people you don't know, if the mood strikes.
-
Step 9
Thank your host, if there is one.

on 8/29/2006 If you're lost on rules of etiquette anywhere in the evening, follow the lead of the person who looks like they know what they are doing. A moment's hesitation can save you a mountainous blunder.

on 11/22/2005 Men, please do not remove your suit jacket, no matter how warm you are. Go outside and cool off, if need be.

on 11/22/2005 Hold your head high and stand and sit up straight. Trust me. No matter how traditional these tips are, you would be amazed at how many people slouch, and it really isn't attractive - or elegant - at all.
