How to Open PDF (Acrobat) Documents

You may come across Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files while surfing the Web or on CDs of software programs that you buy. Many times the Adobe Acrobat Reader program, which you can use to open PDF documents, is included with the CD, but sometimes a link to it is provided from the Web site from which you downloaded the PDF.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

Step1
To read a PDF file, you need to get Acrobat Reader.
Step2
Go to the Adobe Web site.
Step3
Click the Products link.
Step4
Click Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download Reader for free.
Step5
Download, and install Acrobat Reader. You'll now be able to read PDF files.
Step6
Double-click your PDF to open it in the Reader.

Tips & Warnings

  • Configure your browser to use Acrobat Reader when it encounters a PDF file.
  • To create your own PDF documents, you need the Distiller program, which is available from Adobe as well (there is a charge to download Distiller).
  • You can print the Acrobat document just as you would any other document. However, printing can take a while, especially if the document has graphics.
