How to Make a Caffe Americano

A caffe americano is espresso with hot water - perhaps a nod to the notorious American preference for weaker brews (at least in the opinion of Europeans). Serves one.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/3 c. ground coffees
  • espresso machines
  • 6-oz. cups
  • 6-oz. Cups
  • Espresso Machines
  • 1/3 c. ground coffees
  1. Step 1

    Pour one shot, or 1 1/2 oz. espresso, into a 6-oz. cup. (See "How to Make an Espresso" in the Related eHows section for instructions on making espresso.)

  2. Step 2

    Add boiling water to the espresso until the cup is full.

on 1/9/2006 To preserve the beautiful crema, pull the shot(s) into the not boiling, but hot water. Boiling water will damage the espresso. Try to keep it at or around 160F. Pouring water onto a shot destroys the shot's anatomy.
