Tilt your skis off their bases as you turn.

  5. Step 5

Use your ski edges to turn the skis quickly.

  6. Step 6

Make sure your upper body is facing down the slope while your lower body points across the slope.

  7. Step 7

Stop, admiring the spray of snow you send into the air.

Tips & Warnings
  • Turning your skis quickly and at the exact same time is the key to the hockey stop.
  • For a crisp stop, get your skis as close to parallel across the slope as possible.
  • The hockey stop is a fantastic way to send a plume of snow flying in the air at an unsuspecting friend.

on 2/28/2006 It may be a great way to to send a plume of snow flying in the air at an unsuspecting friend, however, as an instructor you must advise and instruct your students on the risk of missing the hockey stop. If you miss it, you may slide straight into their legs and break them. It is a VERY dangerous move.
