How to Rig a Mainsail

By preparing your mainsail before leaving the dock you save time and maintain crew safety.

• Sailing Gloves
• Boat Shoes
• Sailing Books
• Sailing Magazines
• Sailboats

1. Remove the sail cover.

2. Release the halyard from its cleat.

3. Attach the halyard to the headboard.

4. Secure the headboard end of the halyard by leading it down from the headboard to a winch or cleat on or near the mast. This will ensure it doesn't wrap around the mast or shrouds.

5. Pull the slack out of the other end of the halyard and tie it off to a cleat. The sail is now ready to be raised.
