    Instructions

      • 1

Remove your oil filter by loosening it with a filter wrench.

      • 2

Drain all oil from the filter into a leakproof container with a secure screw-on top. Use a clean container that has not been used to store household chemicals; a plastic milk jug will work fine.

      • 3

Check with oil collection centers, your local service station, car repair shops or car dealers to see if they take used oil filters.

      • 4

Call (800) MOTOR-OIL for the nearest Valvoline First Recovery Center, and ask if they take oil filters along with motor oil.

      • 5

See if a Jiffy Lube in your area recycles used oil filters.

      • 6

Contact the Filter Manufacturers Council at (800) 99-FILTER or visit its Web site at www.filtercouncil.org for more information about recycling your used oil filter.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Call (800) CLEAN-UP for California state recycling information.

    • In some areas, your weekly garbage/recycling pickup will provide containers and offer curbside pickup for used motor oil (although they don't take filters).

    • Be sure to keep the used oil and oil filter out of the reach of children and pets.

    • Avoid mixing used motor oil with antifreeze, as the oil will become contaminated.
