How to Buy a Tree Stand

Buying a Christmas tree stand is a rite of passage, much like getting a driver's license or finding that first crow's foot. But on the bright side, it's also a commitment to celebrating every year.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide on what you want - wood, plastic or metal? Traditional or a high-tech wonder that revolves and plays carols to boot? (Do take into consideration that a wood stand often comes with a tree bought in a lot.)

  2. Step 2

Take a good look at your space and think about how much of a commitment you want to make. Tree stands typically come in two sizes: small and large. The small ones won't fit large trees, and the large ones don't contract enough for small trees.

  3. Step 3

Go to your favorite retailer, find the tree stands and choose one. Make sure it works before you buy it. Does it have all of its pieces, including the screws? Is it wobbly?

  4. Step 4

Pay for it, bring it home, put it on your tree - and pat yourself on the back for successfully negotiating yet another step toward real adulthood.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many stores start to run out of Christmas tree stands a week or so before Christmas, so don't wait too long.

on 8/26/2009 This is interesting. Here are my comments about those steps.

About step 1:
How about an automatic & instantaneous Christmas tree stand? Have a look at the PrettyFastStand Christmas tree stand.
I would suggest a good stand made of high quality polymer. Composite polymer is even stronger. This makes a light yet sturdy stand that won't rust or bend over time.

About step 2:
It is true that many Christmas tree stands let aside Christmas trees having a trunk under 2 inches in diameter. A great small Christmas tree stand will clamp a trunk down to only 1 inch or so in diameter.

About Step 3:
How about online retailers or the Christmas tree stand manufacturers' web site? You may get your stand delivered to your door step in one to two days!
Also, how about a Christmas tree stand without those screws that hurt?

About step 4:
Life should be fulfilled with sweet memories!
