How to Remove a Washing Machine Agitator

Sometimes the agitator will get broken or crack. It's important to replace it promptly or you will find tears and rips in your clothes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hammers
  • Wood Blocks
  • Hammers
  1. Step 1

    Unscrew the agitator cap.

  2. Step 2

    Pull up on the agitator.

  3. Step 3

    Fill the tub halfway with hot water if it won't come loose. Sometimes the heat helps release it.

  4. Step 4

    Tap on a small block of wood pressed up against the top of the agitator if it still won't release.

  5. Step 5

    Replace the old one with a new agitator of the same model.

on 6/11/2008 doesn't answer my question. The agitator seems to be stuck or is there a screw or something holding it in place?
