How to Decompress a File With PKZip

Use the following steps to decompress a zip file. This procedure works for PKZip version 2.7 for Windows 95 and 98.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Service Providers
  • PKZip Software
  1. Step 1

    Double-click the file you want to decompress. PKZip automatically starts and opens the zip file.

  2. Step 2

    Click the Extract menu and choose Extract Files.

  3. Step 3

    Enter the directory to extract the files into, or use the Browse button to select the directory.

  4. Step 4

    Click Extract. PKZip shows the extraction progress.

  5. Step 5

    Click Done to complete the file extraction.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create a shortcut of PKZip and move it to your desktop or Start menu for easy access.
  • Select options for extracting selected files or extracting files to the printer. Click Preferences to view and select other file extraction options.
  • Select consecutive files quickly by holding the Shift key and clicking the first and last file names. Select nonconsecutive files by holding the Control key and clicking the file names.
  • Clicking the sponsor ad or online button in the shareware version of PKZip automatically launches your Internet access software. This action can lead to additional charges on your Internet service provider bill if you're billed by connect time.
