If you're on a PC and you receive Macintosh files with .sit or .sea extensions, don't despair. You can decompress the .sit (StuffIt archive) file or .sea (StuffIt self-extracting) file with Aladdin Expander, a freeware program provided by Aladdin Systems. Aladdin Expander is compatible with Windows 95, 98 and NT.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  • Aladdin Expander
  • DropStuff (Mac)
  1. Step 1

    Download Aladdin Expander at Download.com.

  2. Step 2

Double-click the file to decompress and install the Expander software.

  3. Step 3

Double-click Expander.exe to run the Expander program.

  4. Step 4

Drag the .sit or .sea file into the Expander window. Expander automatically decompresses the Mac file in its stored directory location.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create a shortcut of Aladdin Expander on your desktop. You can drag the compressed file onto the shortcut icon to decompress the file.
  • Use Aladdin Expander to decompress other files, too: zip (.zip), uuencode (.uue), BinHex (.hqx), MacBinary (.bin), ARC (.arc), Arj (.arj), and gzip (.gz) files.
  • Download Aladdin DropStuff, a shareware program, if you want to compress files for the Macintosh.
