    Body and Legs

  1. Step 1

    Turn one sock wrong-side out.

  2. Step 2

Lay the sock flat and mark a center line from the heel to the top of the sock.

  3. Step 3

Measure 3 inches up from the heel and mark a line across the sock. This will form the legs.

  4. Step 4

Begin at your 3-inch line, and stitch a line 1/4 inch away from the right side of the center line.

  5. Step 5

Stop 1/4 inch from the top of the sock.

  6. Step 6

Turn the sock and stitch across the top of the sock to the outside edge to form the right leg.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps 4 to 6 on the left side of the line for the left leg.

  8. Step 8

Cut on the center line to separate into legs.

  9. Step 9

Turn the sock right-side out and stuff.

  10. Step 10

Whipstitch the opening between the legs closed after the body and legs are stuffed.

  11. Mouth, Hat, Tail, Arms and Ears

  12. Step 1

Cut off the white and red heel from the second sock, leaving an extra 1/2 inch for seam allowance. This will make the mouth.

  13. Step 2

Cut off the toe of the second sock to make the hat.

  14. Step 3

Divide the top of the second sock into three equal sections. One long section from the top to bottom of the entire sock will be the tail. The other two sections need to be from the heel to the top of the sock and rounded at the top to make the hands.

  15. Step 4

    Cut out each section.

  16. Step 5

Pin the right sides together, and sew using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Turn right-side out and stuff.

  17. Step 6

Draw two half circles on the remaining sock material, and cut out for the ears.

  18. Step 7

Sew right sides together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance, and leave a small opening to turn material and stuff.

  19. Attaching the Parts

  20. Step 1

Place the mouth on the monkey's face about 1 inch below the white edge of the sock. Whipstitch into place leaving a small opening to stuff, then stitch closed.

  21. Step 2

Place the ears on each side of the monkey's head and whipstitch into place.

  22. Step 3

Stitch the tail on the seat of the monkey in the center of the red heel. Whipstitch the arms at the body sides.

  23. Step 4

Tack the hat on top of the head.

  24. Step 5

Embroider eyes, a line across the mouth, and nostrils.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use anything that can be removed and placed in a baby's or toddler's mouth if you're making the doll for a small child.

on 11/22/2005 Some stockings look nice, but when you stuff them, they stretch so thin that you can see white tufts of stuffing right through them. I prefer Stanfield's brand, because they have a good tight knit.
