How to Assume a Ready Stance in Tai Chi

In a ready stance you are both relaxed and alert. It's a position commonly assumed before commencing a form.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tai Chi Medidation Music
  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Tai Chi Videos
  1. Step 1

    Face forward with your body and head erect.

  2. Step 2
     

    Flex your knees slightly.

  3. Step 3
     

    Keep your heels together and point your left foot out at a 45-degree angle.

  4. Step 4

    Bend your elbows slightly, keeping your arms relaxed with the palms facing inward.

  5. Step 5
     

    Look forward, letting nothing distract you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Concentrate on the task at hand. Nothing should distract you from the ready stance.
  • The martial arts are physically demanding. Consult your physician for advice on whether or not you should pursue this activity.
