How to Assume an Attention Stance in Tae Kwon Do

The attention stance (cha-ryot sogi) is used to show respect and courtesy for senior students and instructors. The traditional bow starts from the attention stance, as do all tae kwon do movements.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

    Place your feet together with the inner edges touching.

  2. Step 2

    Bend your knees slightly.

  3. Step 3

    Hold your arms stiffly at your sides, slightly away from your body.

  4. Step 4

    Make your hands into fists or keep them open.

  5. Step 5

    Look straight ahead, but don't focus on anything in particular.

Tips & Warnings
  • Nothing should distract you from the attention position.
  • Look straight ahead and focus on your breathing.
  • Maintain perfect posture.
  • The martial arts are physically demanding. Consult your physician for advice on whether or not you should participate in this activity.
