1
Check with your school to determine the restrictions and types of uniforms available for your martial arts discipline.
-
2
Consider the weight of the material. Heavy 12-ounce cotton-canvas uniforms may provide crisp snaps and that razor-creased look to impress tournament judges, but you might want a lighter-weight cotton uniform for hot summer days.
-
3
Don't expect a lighter-weight cotton uniform to last as long as a medium- or heavy-weight fabric.
-
4
Ask the school or supplier about men's and women's sizes. In karate-type uniforms, a small men's size is similar to a medium women's, a men's medium is like a women's large, and so on.
-
5
Look at tunic-type tops and elastic or drawstring waistband pants to offer the most flexibility. They require the least number of adjustments. Think about your comfort. Some schools allow T-shirts during Saturday class or in the summer months, providing they carry the school's insignia.
