How to Furnish a Barbie House

Find out what type of furniture is needed in the house you are furnishing. Consider Barbie and non-Barbie furniture when making your purchase.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Barbie Bathroom Sets
  • Barbie Bedroom Sets
  • Barbie Dolls
  • Barbie Houses
  • Barbie Kitchen Sets
  • Barbie Living Room Sets

Step1
Determine how big the house is. Many official Barbie houses are quite small and cannot hold much furniture.
Step2
Find out what furniture the house already has. You don't want to buy a dining room table if it already has one.
Step3
Learn what rooms the house has. Most have at least a bedroom, living room and kitchen.
Step4
Think about the types of furniture available for Barbies. Many items are battery-powered and have lights, make noise or spray water. Decide if you want a high-tech item like this.
Step5
Go to your local toy store and walk down the Barbie aisle and see everything that is available.
Step6
Consider furniture that is designed for imitation Barbie dolls. You will have a greater variety of options this way and may find things similar to real Barbie furniture at lower prices.
Step7
Check catalogs and online stores for a wider variety of furniture items.
Step8
Recognize that some Barbie furniture is designed for smaller Barbies like Stacie or Kelly, but some dollhouse accessories for smaller dolls will work for Barbie. Make sure you purchase furniture that is big enough for Barbie.

Tips & Warnings

  • When assembling Barbie furniture, make sure you read the instructions carefully or you may end up putting stickers on upside down or in the wrong place.
  • Call Mattel if you do put stickers on incorrectly. Often Mattel will send you new stickers at no cost.
  • Understand that old Barbie furniture may be valuable and might be harmed by enthusiastic play.
  • Have fun making your selection.

on 6/18/2007 Couch, chair or bed from styrofoam. The styrfoam you get when you buy electronics like dvd players (makes a good couch) can be easily trimed to make furniture. My mom did this for me more than 20 years ago. She used scrap fabric to cover it & hot glue it into place.

on 8/8/2006 1. Take an empty Kleenex box. Turn it so the top part of the hole is facing down, otherwise there will be a saggy spot in the finished couch (of course this might be more realistic). The smaller hole is facing away from you.

2. Now measure in 3 inches on one end of the box and mark it out with a pen. You'll have a 3 inch square. Do the same thing with the other end.

3. Make a straight line connecting the two ends. It's like connect the dots, just follow the lines from one end to the other.

4. Score those longest lines, otherwise it won't fold in well.

5. Now cut out the 3 inch squares at both ends. There may be some tearing of the box at this point but don't worry - you can fix that with masking tape.

6. Okay, now you just push the box in so it closes those holes. This is why you've got to score the lines. If it's not folding in well, score them again.

7. Close any open seams with masking tape and cover with a fuzzy fabric. You can add pillows or throws for fun.

on 6/30/2006 I found this in a Family Fun article, so it's not my original idea but it works great.

1. Take an empty Kleenex box. Turn it so the top part of the hole is facing down (otherwise there will be a saggy spot in the finished couch) and the smaller hole is facing away from you.
2. Now measure in 3 inches on one end of the box and mark it out with a pen. You'll have a 3 inch square. Do the same thing with the other end.
3. Make a straight line connecting the two ends. It's like connect the dots, just follow the lines from one end to the other.
4. IMPORTANT - Score those longest lines, otherwise it won't fold in good.
5. Now cut out the 3 inch squares at both ends. There may be some tearing of the box at this point, but don't worry - you can fix that with masking tape.
6. Okay, now you just push the box in so it closes those holes. This is why you've got to score the lines. If it's not folding in well, score them again.

on 11/30/2005 You can make a barbie couch from a cereal box.
1, Remove the flaps and cut down the corners to about 1 1/2 inches from bottom .
2. Trim the side flaps (small ends) at about 1/2 way down from top of box.
3. trim the back off about 1/4 the way down
4. Trim the front about 1/2 way down
5. fold the back down in half that is the back of the couch.
6. fold the sides down leaving the folded edge shorter than the back.
7. roll and fold the front down that is the seat of the couch.
Your folded cereal box should look like a couch. Glue fabric of your choice on it to upholster

You can do the same thing with 1/2 gallon or quart milk or juice cartons for chairs. You can also use orange juice cans cut and stuffing for barrel chairs

on 11/22/2005 I made my daughter a bed for her Barbies with curtains and feather pillows. It was a dream bed, and when her girlfriends came, they had glowing eyes, so I started to sell the beds to people who wanted them, and also on Ebay.
