How to Make a Chow in Mah Jongg

Collect three consecutive tiles from the same mah jongg suit to form a chow.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 Chairs
  • Card Tables
  • Pencils
  • Pencils
  • Mah Jongg
  • Mah Jongg Tiles
  • Scoring Pads
  • Pencils
  1. Step 1

    Declare a chow on your turn.

  2. Step 2

    Make the chow from the tiles already in your hand - keep it concealed to earn more points.

  3. Step 3

    Form a chow in an alternative way by taking the discarded tile from the player before you to create a "melded triplet."

  4. Step 4

    Place a melded triplet face up on the table with the discarded tile lying at a right angle to the second tile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that a player who declares a pung may take that discarded tile from you, because a pung takes precedence over a chow.
