Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Life Vests
  • Wet Suits
  • Windsurf Boards
  • Windsurf Rigs
  1. Step 1

Master jumping off waves and landing before you attempt a barrel-roll jump. Learn tabletop and upside down jumps first, as well.

  2. Step 2

Carve your board slightly toward the wind as you approach the steepest part of the wave at high speed.

  3. Step 3

Lean back and sheet in as you hit the lip of the wave.

  4. Step 4

Hurl all your weight sideways and leeward to begin spinning.

  5. Step 5

Straighten your front leg and your arms, bending at the waist. The nose of your board will spin windward.

  6. Step 6

Pull the clew of the sail through the head-on wind and ease off on your rotation as you begin to descend in the air.

  7. Step 7

Get your body weight over the board and the nose aimed on a downwind reach as you land.

  8. Step 8

Bend your knees and lean way back to let the water absorb your landing. Keep a tight grip on the boom throughout so you can ride away as with a normal water start after you hit the water.

Tips & Warnings
  • For an experienced jumper, the air and spin parts of this trick are relatively easy. The landing is very difficult, however, because the spin can be so disorienting. In the beginning, your best landings may be the result of simple luck, but try to remember how it felt and do it again.
  • The commitment of weight is vital to this trick. Spin your weight around an imaginary axis and don't hesitate at all. No guts, no glory.
  • Fall windward when you fall, if you can, to keep the board off you.
  • Always wear a life vest when windsurfing.
  • Windsurfing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
