How to Do an Upside-Down Jump on a Windsurf Board

A great first trick jump for experienced wave riders - turn the board completely upside down and parachute back down to the water.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Life Vests
  • Wet Suits
  • Windsurf Boards
  • Windsurf Rigs
  1. Step 1

    Windsurf at maximum speed toward a wave's steep face.

  2. Step 2

    Lean way back as you launch up into the air.

  3. Step 3

    Pull your front leg toward your chest, and extend your back leg completely out, pushing the tail of the board toward the sky.

  4. Step 4

    Remain sheeted in and hanging upside down. Hold on tight to the boom.

  5. Step 5

    Parachute back down with your sail horizontal.

  6. Step 6

    Extend you front leg and pull your back leg up toward your chest to land tail first in the water.

  7. Step 7

    Lift the sail to catch the wind, and water start immediately out of the water to keep riding.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's possible to land right-side up on a bigger jump, but don't attempt this until you are very familiar with the rest of the trick. Sheet-in hard to right yourself as you're descending in the air.
  • A fairly strong side-shore wind is the best condition for this type of air.
  • Always wear a life vest.
  • If you fall, try to fall windward of your board so that it doesn't land on you.
  • Windsurfing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
