How to Do a 360 in Windsurfing

Contributor
By eHow Contributing Writer

Lean your body forward and your rig aft to carve a 360 jibe.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Life Vests
  • Wet Suits
  • Windsurf Boards
  • Windsurf Rigs
  1. Step 1

Windsurf on a downwind reach with plenty of speed.

  2. Step 2

Lean on your leeward rail to carve downwind, keeping consistent pressure on your back foot.

  3. Step 3

Lay your rig out leeward (forward and downwind) with the clew dipped toward the tail.

  4. Step 4

Keep turning and leaning without falling over. At the halfway point of your carving 360, your board will substantially decelerate. Move your front foot next to the mast to keep your balance.

  5. Step 5

Pull the sail up and outward as you head up into the wind. Keep turning.

  6. Step 6

Sheet in as you return to a normal stance and your original heading, having turned in a full circle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Execute the 360 as one smooth turn rather than a series of separate parts.
  • Lots of speed and smooth water are necessary for a good 360.
  • If the board stalls as you head into the wind, pressure the clew to force the nose of the board through the wind.
  • Don't sheet in too early - make sure you have completely crossed the windward position first.
  • Always wear a life vest when windsurfing.
  • Learn to windsurf only in mild conditions.
  • Windsurfing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
