It's big and tricky to carry, but you're not going windsurfing until you've got your board and rig in the water; keep things balanced, and work with the wind.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Life Vests
  • Wet Suits
  • Windsurf Boards
  • Windsurf Rigs
  1. Step 1

Take your board and rig to the water separately.

  2. Step 2

Carry the board under your arm at the center point. If the board is too wide, you can hold it by the dagger-board slot. If it is still unwieldy, carry it on top of your head.

  3. Step 3

Pick up your rig on the windward (upwind) side.

  4. Step 4

Hoist the rig over your head, keeping the mast pointed leeward (downwind). Hold on to the mast and the boom while keeping the clew of your sail leeward.

  5. Step 5

Connect your mast to your board at the very edge of the water (accounting for the tide).

  6. Step 6

Hold the board and the rig as a single piece, keeping the mast leeward, and carry it into the water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always lay your sail down with the mast on the windward side (upwind).
  • Watch out for cars, trees and people as you carry your big board and rig.
  • If you are fatigued from carrying your equipment to the water, take a short rest before launching.
  • Windsurfing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
