How to Store Your Racing Sails

Think of your racing sails as if they are fine clothing. Wash, dry and hang them appropriately.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Wipe sails clean to remove salt after use.

  2. Step 2

    Dry sails before folding them.

  3. Step 3

    Roll or flake sails carefully.

  4. Step 4

    Use a canvas sausage bag to protect sail shape.

  5. Step 5

    Remove sails from the boat, and store them in a warm, dry place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take extra care to fold your sails properly. With good folds, your sails will eventually develop some memory and make things easy for you.

on 11/22/2005 Try to fold your sail on a different crease each time. Folding a sail on the same crease will eventually break down the cloth on the crease. Then you'll be left with a weak spot in your sail.
