Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut a square of plain fabric in desired size. (For a pillow, cut two, approximately 16-21 inches plus 1/2-inch seam allowance.)

  2. Step 2

Cut ribbon strips the same length as the square.

  3. Step 3

Lay one fabric square right-side-up, and pin to a foam board if desired.

  4. Step 4

Lay ribbons right side up vertically, side-by-side, across entire fabric square.

  5. Step 5

Pin the ribbons in place, then stitch across the top and bottom, close to the fabric's edge.

  6. Step 6

Attach a large safety pin or shuttle to a ribbon strip and weave it horizontally through the vertical ribbons. Slide it to the top or bottom and then stitch the ends in place.

  7. Step 7

Repeat until the base is covered, beginning each woven strip alternately either under or above the first vertical ribbon.

  8. Step 8

Trim any excess ribbon ends and press.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make a ribbon pillow, place the woven and remaining fabric squares together with the right sides facing. Pin, and then stitch them together with a ½-inch seam, leaving several inches open on one side. Trim the seams and turn right side out. Insert stuffing, fold down edges of the opening and then close it with a slip stitch.
